The state of California recently passed codes that require special Egress Signs for hotels. Per California Building Code 1013.4: "Each exit door that is required to comply with Section 1013.4 shall be identified by a tactile exit sign with the word, 'EXIT.'" The California Egress Sign code also states: "Each exit door that is required to comply with Section 1013.4 and that leads directly to a grade-level exterior exit by means of a stairway or ramp shall be identified by a tactile exit sign."
So what does this mean for you? If your hotel or motel is in the state of California, the law requires you to have these specific Egress Signs posted in your facility. If your hotel or motel is not in the state of California, these signs are not required—but you are certainly welcome to purchase them if you'd like to post them anyway for extra safety!
